Experimental UK Regional Consumer Price Inflation with Model-Based Expenditure Weights

چکیده
Abstract Like many other countries, the United Kingdom (UK) produces a national consumer price index (CPI) to measure inflation. Presently, CPI measures are not produced for regions within UK. It is believed that, using only available data sources, regional would be precise or reliable enough as an official statistic, primarily because partitioning of makes sample sizes too small. We investigate this claim by producing experimental CPIs publicly data, and deriving expenditure weights from Living Costs Food survey. detail methods challenges developing evaluate its reliability. then assess whether model-based such smoothing small area estimation significantly improve measures. find that can with however it appears excessively volatile over time, mainly due weights. Smoothing reliability series some extent but they remain policy use. This research provides valuable framework development more viable UK in future.

Consumer Price Indices in the UK
Overall, taking account of both coverage and formula effect differences and within the limitations of how price data is collected within the UK, the Retail Prices Index (RPI) is as good a consumer price index as one can get for uprating purposes. The systemic difference between the RPI and the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), currently (2015) running at 1.0 percentage points per annum, results pr...

Price and Income Elasticities Estimated From BLS Consumer Expenditure Surveys and ACCRA Price Data Lester D. Taylor University of Arizona* This paper represents a low-key effort to estimate both price and income elasticities for several broad categories of expenditure from cross-sectional data sets that combine price information collected by ACCRA with the BLS Consumer Expenditure Surveys. متن کاملPRODUCTION MODEL WITH SELLING PRICE DEPENDENT DEMAND AND PARTIAL BACKLOGGING UNDER INFLATION
We developed an inventory model for decaying items with selling price dependent demand in inflationary environment. Deterioration rate is taken as two parameter Weibull distribution. Shortages in inventory are allowed with partial backlogging. Backlogging rate is taken as exponential decreasing function of time. Profit maximization technique is used in this study.
متن کاملPrice Competition with Consumer Confusion
This paper proposes a model in which identical sellers of a homogenous product compete in both prices and price frames (i.e., ways to present price information). We model price framing by assuming that firms’ frame choices affect the comparability of their price offers: consumers may fail to compare prices due to frame differentiation, and due to frame complexity. In the symmetric equilibrium t...
متن کاملConsumer Search with Price Sorting∗
This paper introduces price sorting into a consumer search model. Either ascending or descending price sorting can be applied before the sampling process. Consumers search sequentially for products with two types of qualities. We allow a fraction of consumers to have zero search costs, and all other consumers have the same positive search cost. Price dispersion exists in the unique symmetric eq...
